#TGIF! T.A. Lowery Elementary students know which side their bread is buttered - literally! This week, they wrapped up their CKLA unit on farms and the products we get from them with a delicious treat. First, they discussed how common farm animals like chickens, sheep, pigs and cows provide us with nutritious dairy and meat products, while crops such as wheat are harvested for grain and turned into flour. Then they applied their knowledge by making homemade bread in a jar and the butter to go on it. Yum! 😋

#TGIF! After completing their CKLA Knowledge unit on plants this week, kindergarteners at T.A. Lowery Elementary used their newfound plant knowledge to create their very own chia pet. Students filled jars with soil, planted seeds, and nourished them with water. But now comes the hardest part - waiting for their new plant friends to grow! 😬🌱🌿

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a time to highlight the importance of safeguarding online activity from harmful cyber attacks. Each Friday this month, we'll share tips to help our students, staff, and families secure their sensitive data and stay safe online. Tip #4: Never leave your devices unattended, even for a short time. Always secure your laptop, tablet, phone, or flash drive so no one else can use it while you're away. And while you're at it, tidy up your desk to ensure no passwords, account details, or important files are sitting out openly exposed. You'll leave with peace of mind AND a clean workspace! We hope you've found these tips helpful. To learn more about Cybersecurity Awareness Month, visit www.cisa.gov/cybersecurity-awareness-month.

Our priority at T.A. Lowery Elementary School is supporting students and staff. Sharing accurate information with you is a critical part of providing that support. Today, Oct. 19, law enforcement officers and emergency responders were called to our school to support a student. We are grateful for their quick response and ongoing partnership in keeping our school safe. There was no danger to students or staff, and the situation was resolved safely. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to protect and support all of our students and staff. We are celebrating our school leaders this month! Principals are among the hardest working, yet often least recognized individuals in education. Principals set the academic tone for their schools, and it is their vision, dedication, and determination that provide the mobilizing force for achieving student success. We are so grateful for our principals who step up every day for our students and staff.

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a time to highlight the importance of safeguarding online activity from harmful cyber attacks. Each Friday this month, we'll share tips to help our students, staff, and families secure their sensitive data and stay safe online. Tip #2: Don't click suspicious links. Sometimes you may get what seems like an email from a friend. But is your friend really the one sending the message? Always review the sender's email before replying to a message or clicking a link. Malicious files can extract personal data, monitor and transmit your activities, and even take over your device. Avoid suspicious or unnecessary downloads and scan documents with anti-virus software before opening. If you're still uncertain about a link, visit www.virustotal.com to check its safety. Visit www.cisa.gov/cybersecurity-awareness-month to learn more about Cybersecurity Awareness Month.
